2 Exchanges, 2 Reptiles In The Apartment

Dạ Xin chào mọi người, 大家好, and hello!

Hope you are having an amazing start to your March. Seems like February flew by, even with the extra day. This week was nice - we got a lot of work done and stayed productive.

P-Day Pizza Party:

Last P-Day Elder Tolley, Elder Honda, Elder Neinhuis and I all made some homemade pizza. Elder Neinhuis made some dough, and we had the oven, so it was a good trade. We played some board and card games while we ate our delicious pizza.

Exchanges:

This week I had the opportunity to go on two exchanges, the first with Elder Vassantachart back in Thảo Điền. It was fun to go back and see the apartment and streets. We did some finding and a couple of lessons which went well!

The second exchange was with the Zone Leaders in the Thủ Đức area. The ZL and I took a 45min bus ride out to a referral which pretty much dropped us off in the middle of nowhere in this town. It really hit me that I was in Vietnam when we visited there, haha! The person we met was really amazing and super interested in learning more. We got to visit his home and do a bit of finding in the town.

Reptile Friends:

This week Elder Tolley and I have found two new friends in our apartment. Unfortunately, neither the frog or the lizard were interested in learning English when we asked. See Google Photos for videos.

Spiritual Thought:

While reading in Preach my Gospel this week (the book missionaries use for teaching) I found this sentence I really like regarding the atonement of Jesus Christ:

"Although we are imperfect and may fall short again, there is more grace, love, and mercy in Jesus Christ than there is failure, flaw, or sin in us" I found that to be a really remarkable statement. I know through the grace and mercy of Christ, we can move on from our mistakes and live a life of happiness filled with hope.

Overall - I don't have much else to report on. Life is bình thường here in Vietnam! I didn't take pictures this week... sorry. Check out the videos of the lizard and frog though.

With love,

Elder Reynolds

Alo- Hope you are doing well and enjoying the Spring Weather. We are hoping to start getting some warmer weather this next week (meaning the grey overcast that has been here for the past 3.5 months leaves). This week I don't really have much to report on. Always Adjusting: This week was mainly just adjustment to the new area and assignment. This transfer I'll be helping as an Assistant, which is mainly a lot of behind the scenes work. It reminds me a lot of when I was doing Social Media work a little over a year ago - rather than managing the social media, you help with different aspects of the mission. There isn't anything extremely stressful or overwhelming -- it is just lots of small tasks you have to learn to do. My current companion has great experience in this role and has been teaching me lots. He leaves at the end of this transfer, so I am trying to absorb as much as I can to get it ready for the next transfer.  The Mission Branch: One aspect I have been enjoying ...

We Didn't Start The Fire

(Note from Sally: This week is an extra long letter, so good thing you have the holiday break to read it. :) Ethan just found out this morning that he was on the  Vietnamese National News  - his part starts at the 19:00min mark. Also, he was asked to write his testimony and thoughts about this Christmas to share with our home ward here in Idaho, so I attached those in a Word Doc as well. ) Merry Christmas!   Alo mọi người, Yes - the title of the email is a reference to Billy Joel "We Didn't Start The Fire" and it is relevant to the story.  This week was one for the books. That's why this email is going to be a bit longer than the previous ones I have been sending. We've had about everything, from the police in our apartment to a wild Branch Christmas Party. Make sure to check out the Google Photo Album this week.  Last Monday - The Vietnamese UFO:  Last Preparation Day, as I mentioned in the previous email we were visiting a Non-Profit Government Organizati...

30 Chưa Phải Là Tết

Alo, It has been a great week. After eating some delicious tacos and having a crossover with the Binh Duong/Phu My Hung districts in Saigon, we flew back to Hanoi in the evening. We finished our Hanoi Zone Conference and welcomed our two new senior missionaries. We've been meeting with lots of our friends and having member meals, which is always enjoyable.  On Sunday we had a man from China come to participate in a sacrament meeting. We aren't certain how he found out about the church, because he randomly showed up at the building. I helped "interpret" for him, but I could really only give him the general idea of what was going on. I was feeling a little embarrassed how little I could communicate, despite my previous studies. During the sacrament, I was just praying I could at least do the basics to help him the best I can. After we took the water, he tapped me on my shoulder and asked me a question. I had to ask him to repeat it 2 times because I thought I misunder...
