Fake It - Till You Bake It

 Alo,

Good morning, noon, afternoon, or evening. I hope you are doing well and staying healthy! Life for me here in Vietnam has been pretty normal - we have just been settling into the new apartment and getting into a new groove.

The random people dropping stuff off at our apartment said they were done coming, and we fixed my companions' tire after it exploded - so we are on track and ready for a fresh week. Fortunately, because many of our friends went back to their hometowns this week or are busy starting with school, this was a good time to get things fixed and prepped for the upcoming week. I've come to learn there is always a reason for our trials while being out on my mission.

Last Preparation Day:
We had a pretty laid back day - went to a sushi buffet and then went to a nearby mall. We got some legos and built them together which was fun. Seeing all of the knock-off Lego sets here always makes me smile. Our District decided on getting this big robot figure. We also got a new District Leader - Capybara, the plushie I am sure you have seen on Google Photos and on FaceBook. Capybara has been helping participants speak more at our English activities. I am certainly no psychologist, but having people hold the capybara plushie while they speak out loud in front of the group really does seem to help. Then, they pass it to another person for them to speak and we don't have to keep calling on people. 10/10 recommend getting a mascot plushie for your English Activities.

Fake It Till You Bake It:
Explanation behind the title of the email:
Last week our English activities were focused on the topic of baking. For the last 20min of the activity we usually play a game together about the topic - but we were having a hard time thinking of a game. Instead of a game, we decided we would teach people how to bake a cake, like a cooking show, using our imagination. And you know what? It actually worked.

We first passed out everyone's (imaginary) bowls, then poured our (imaginary) ingredients that we learned into the bowls and mixed everything together. We put it into our (imaginary) oven (which I burned my hands on because someone pointed out I forgot to wear gloves). Side note: I have no idea how to bake a cake. I was just telling people to crack eggs, pour flour in, pour sugar, whatever, at random times. After we cooked our cakes we ate them and everyone said they were delicious. Success. Then, we had people come up and lead the class in making the cake. It was a good time.

Watching 10-15 people mix imaginary cake batter is one of the funniest things I think I have done on my mission so far. I was just laughing thinking, "What would someone do if they walked in right now, no context, and saw 10-15 people just spinning their arms in circles laughing?". It was even more fun telling people to mix faster and faster. I'm grateful everyone played along.

Alma 34 in 1 Hour? No.
Long story short - don't try to teach Alma 34 in one hour for a Book of Mormon club. Just trust me on it. It will burn hotter than a dumpster fire in Portland Oregon on a Thursday afternoon. Won't be doing that again.

Ether 12:41
I invite you to this week to follow the invite in this scripture and seek Jesus. How do you "Seek Jesus" in your life - not just on Sunday, but on your day to day life.

That is all from me! Thanks for the read. Send me some questions you have about Vietnam or the mission. I would love to have an email answering some of them and sharing them!

Thanks, love you all.

Alo- Hope you are doing well and enjoying the Spring Weather. We are hoping to start getting some warmer weather this next week (meaning the grey overcast that has been here for the past 3.5 months leaves). This week I don't really have much to report on. Always Adjusting: This week was mainly just adjustment to the new area and assignment. This transfer I'll be helping as an Assistant, which is mainly a lot of behind the scenes work. It reminds me a lot of when I was doing Social Media work a little over a year ago - rather than managing the social media, you help with different aspects of the mission. There isn't anything extremely stressful or overwhelming -- it is just lots of small tasks you have to learn to do. My current companion has great experience in this role and has been teaching me lots. He leaves at the end of this transfer, so I am trying to absorb as much as I can to get it ready for the next transfer.  The Mission Branch: One aspect I have been enjoying ...

30 Chưa Phải Là Tết

Alo, It has been a great week. After eating some delicious tacos and having a crossover with the Binh Duong/Phu My Hung districts in Saigon, we flew back to Hanoi in the evening. We finished our Hanoi Zone Conference and welcomed our two new senior missionaries. We've been meeting with lots of our friends and having member meals, which is always enjoyable.  On Sunday we had a man from China come to participate in a sacrament meeting. We aren't certain how he found out about the church, because he randomly showed up at the building. I helped "interpret" for him, but I could really only give him the general idea of what was going on. I was feeling a little embarrassed how little I could communicate, despite my previous studies. During the sacrament, I was just praying I could at least do the basics to help him the best I can. After we took the water, he tapped me on my shoulder and asked me a question. I had to ask him to repeat it 2 times because I thought I misunder...

Unphởgettable

Alo-  This week was enjoyable having our MLC meeting and preparing for the upcoming transfer. Lots of changes are happening, which is exciting. It just means more unforeseen good things are yet to come!  Tuesday, I conclude my time as a missionary. Service as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has been such a blessing to me. Both written and spoken words are inadequate to share about what I've learned in these last 23 months. So I'd just like to give a brief, but sincere testimony: I testify we have a loving God, who is our Heavenly Father. I know he has a Son, Jesus Christ, who sacrificed his life for us. I've learned how God's Plan for us will lead us to eternal happiness and joy. I know as we repent, we can overcome our burdens and be strengthened by the Lord. I know as we read in the Book of Mormon and pray, we will have an increased knowledge of His love for us. Overall, I testify true, pure happiness and joy is found in Jesus Christ...
