Alo,
It has been another great week here in Vietnam. We stayed busy meeting with our friends, going on two exchanges, and prepping for the new incoming missionaries for the following transfer. We have an eventful July coming up and are hoping for some baptisms in the mission branch.
Elder Trường and I will be continuing our time together here in Ba Dinh which is going to be a blast. (Elder Trường said he is happy because "it gets better" in the third transfer with the same companion, haha). Although staying in the same area, we are moving to a new apartment which is much needed. We are just moving across the hall, which may seem insignificant -- but the apartment across has something we do not have: Windows. The floor below us is also being completely renovated, meaning all paint fumes, welding, sanding, and other fun particles from construction would float up into our apartment would sit and stay. Our industrial air purifier, although powerful, has simply not been enough. We are looking forward to having outdoor air, a little more space for the four of us, and sunshine in the apartment.
As of Monday Elder Vincent, the Elder who was here before my MTC group will be returning home. This means our MTC group of Elders are now the "oldest" missionaries, truly making us the "Anh Cả's [Elders] of the mission. I exchanged with Elder Vincent this week, so it was fun to talk and hear of his future plans.
Coming back from the exchange, Elder Trường and I accidentally got in the wrong taxi. Long story short: I had called a Grab [Vietnamese Uber] to pick us up from the church, and a car pulled up having the same 3 numbers on the license plate. We got in the taxi, I confirmed the address with the driver, and he started driving. Then I noticed the taxi had a meter going, and the Grab driver on the app was texting me "Where are you..." I just looked at Elder Trường and started laughing. We got everything cleared up with the taxi driver, he was still going to the correct address, he was just confused why two random people opened the door to his car and told him to start driving. The Lord does protect his missionaries.
Spiritual Thought:
Recently I have been pondering my experience in cleaning the temple before going on my mission. I often struggled wanting to go to the temple. However, I felt a sense of service and comfortability helping clean the temple, rather than doing ordinances. I felt it was a way to express my gratitude to the Lord and I a time I could just clean, and not be distracted by anything. It is hard to explain, but there is a sort of sacred satisfaction getting to clean and help prepare such a holy place. I look forward to cleaning the temple again soon.
I invite you just to consider trying it - try it out for a night, if you can.
I am doing well and enjoying the mission. Wishing you the best success!
Love you,
Anh Cả Reynolds
