Alo,
Hope you are doing well! This week was very busy - as of writing this email my right eye has finally stopped twitching. Regardless, it was fun staying busy. For the sake of the length of this email, I'll try to condense days into some small paragraphs. Enjoy.
- Last Monday, Elder Trường and I flew down South to Saigon. The flight was delayed for 2 hours, having us land right at 10:30pm. After getting luggage and a taxi, we ended our night at 11:45pm and slept.
- Tuesday morning we did our normal morning studies. Then for lunch, we traveled to the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Saigon where we would meet Elder Teh of the Seventy for our interview/confirmed agendas for the mission tour. We had lunch at a Dim Sum restaurant then met him in the Executive Lounge for our meeting. Funnily enough, a member I knew from Ha Dong was randomly in the lobby downstairs, so they were able to help us up the elevator and into the lounge without needing to call President or Sister Howell to let us in with the key card. Elder Trường and I enjoyed taking photos and meeting in the big fancy conference room like we were VIPs. We enjoyed our free juice and macarons. I rate my free experience at the J.W. Marriott Executive Lounge a 10/10. After the opening meeting, we had dinner with Elder Teh.
- Wednesday morning was early as Elder Trường and I went to the district center to prepare for the meeting. We had wonderful trainings that were focused on faith and helping us be more bold in our sharing. Directly following meetings we traveled with President and Sister Howell and Elder and Sister Teh to the airport to catch our flight back to Hanoi. While waiting at the airport, Elder Teh asked us: "So Elders, do you want Burger King or do you want to wait in the Business class lounge?". We went to the lounge -- ONLY because President and Sister Howell had Platinum status with Vietnam Airlines, so they could each invite a guest in for free. THEREFORE, we were saving them money by not making them pay for Burger King. We enjoyed waiting for our delayed flight in the lounge and chatting with Elder and Sister Teh.
- Thursday we had the same meeting for the North. Elder Teh is a really good speaker, it was impressive to see him adapt his teachings and training differently to each area. After the meetings, we taught English Activity and ordered lunch for the MLC meeting.
- Friday we met together as an MLC and had burritos with Elder and Sister Teh. We had good counsel together with how we want to improve the mission and set goals for the future. Following the MLC we did exchanges with the Zone Leaders from Saigon and had a busy night teaching.
- Saturday afternoon we ended our exchanges and had a District Conference in the evening.
- Sunday we had the morning session of District Conference. Just when things were finally getting quiet about 2min before the meeting, a friend I knew from about 4 transfers ago in Hai Bà Trưng came running into the meeting, made eye contact with me, and in front of the whole room exclaimed, "ETHAN REYNOLDS!! IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE YOU!!" (It should be noted, this friend has some social challenges and has a hard time staying reverent/quiet). He was also a little "underdressed" for the meeting, which brought a little more attention. However, after stepping out into the hall with the Branch President and promising he would be quiet and respectful, and getting on a suit coat, he was able to join us for the meeting and did a great job.
Spiritual Thought:
Sister Teh asked an interesting question for us to ponder: "What are your Spiritual Goals for the next 50 years?"
I am doing well. The busier the better, but I'm definitely resting today. Send me an email about what you are up to!
Love you,
Anh Cả Reynolds
